Delta, CO (June 26, 2025) – The Delta Correctional Center (DCC) Crochet Club organized a meaningful cancer walk on May 10th, raising more than $248 for the Delta Health Oncology Fund in support of local cancer patients.
“We are so grateful for the support of our community’s cancer patients from the DCC,” said Erica Butterfield, RN, BSN, OCN, Registered Nurse in the Delta Health Oncology, Hematology and Infusion Department. “The donation was raised directly from the inmates buying doughnuts prior to the walk and photo opportunities at the walk.”
The walk drew approximately 40 inmates, each completing 15 laps in solidarity with cancer patients. Three Delta Health staff members attended to support the participants and accept the generous donation. As participants crossed the finish line, they received cancer awareness ribbons hand-crocheted by the DCC Crochet Club.
The DCC Crochet Club represents a group of dedicated volunteers who contribute their time and skills to create hats, scarves, toys, and blankets for community members in need.
“The yarn is collected through donations from the community, and inmates may request yarn for a specific project,” said Rebekah Braveheart, a Correctional Officer at the DCC. “These projects are turned into staff from the inmates, and then the staff donates these projects back to the community for those are in need of them. We have even donated to Delta Health’s gift shop, Stork’s Landing, and the Oncology Department itself.”
Delta Health values its strong community partnerships with programs like the DCC Crochet Club and deeply appreciates the generous contribution to the Oncology Department.
