Delta, CO (November 7, 2024) – The Delta Health Volunteer Chaplains hosted their fifth annual Delta Health Chaplain’s St. Luke’s Recognition Awards on October 29, honoring and celebrating healthcare professionals who consistently demonstrate exceptional compassion towards patients, families, and colleagues.
Inspired by St. Luke, renowned as the author of the Biblical books of Luke and Acts, and presumed to be educated as a physician, the St. Luke’s awards honor caregivers, nurses, physicians, and hospital staff for their outstanding efforts in healing the mind, body, and spirit.
This year’s four nominees—Theresa Wrich, RN, Sabrina Ryan, LPN, Amber Medina, RN, and Janel Webb, RN, BSN,—were recognized for going above and beyond in showing compassion and promoting a healing environment. They exemplify dedication to their profession by meeting patients and staff where they are, incorporating their faith and calling into their service.
Of these nominees, two winners were chosen, Sabrina Ryan from the Delta Health Pulmonology Clinic and Janel Webb, Delta Health Quality Director, to receive the prestigious Healing Hands statue/award. Sabrina was recognized for her compassionate heart and doing what is right by her patients. She adapts to each patient and creates an environment where patients feel connected to her. Janel was recognized for her 19 years of service at Delta Health and her empathy and extensive knowledge when it comes to patient care.
Sabrina’s nomination letter noted how she, “treats her patients as if they were her family. She reaches out to them if they’ve had a hard day, sends condolences for loss and is always going above and beyond with patient care.” The letter recognized her ability to do right by her patients even if it means having hard conversations and discussions to make sure they are well-informed and understand the risks.
Janel’s nomination letter chronicled her journey at Delta Health. Starting off as a new graduate nurse on the Med/Surg floor, then ICU, House Supervisor, Director of ICU, the Director of Education and now also the Director of Quality. It noted her clinical competence and critical thinking skills that allow her to communicate clearly and compassionately with patients. “Janel has the ability to recognize the emotional and psychological challenges that patients face and provides support that goes beyond physical care,” read the nomination letter.
The ceremony was opened by Pastor James Conley, followed by a prayer of innovation from Pastor Carol Layton and scripture read by Pastor Sherry Mitchem. The nomination letters were read for each person, and were presented with certificates from the Chaplains. During the ceremony, Chief Executive Officer, Jonathan Cohee, MHA, OT, expressed gratitude and appreciation for the exceptional work that our nurses and healthcare staff provide each day.
The fifth annual St. Luke’s Chaplain Service Awards were a great reminder of the compassionate, quality care that the volunteer chaplains continue to provide. It was also a way to honor the staff of Delta Health for their work in providing remarkable care in a healing environment.
