Delta, CO (March 15, 2024) –Starting in April, Dr. Douglas Huene will be transitioning from Delta Health’s orthopedic clinic to dedicate his skills and services to the Veteran’s Administration in Grand Junction.
“This transition highlights his drive and commitment to supporting those who have served our nation,” said Julie Huffman, Delta Health Interim Chief Executive Officer and Chief Legal Officer. “We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Huene for his years of service in Delta and wish him success in his new role at the VA.”
Born on a U.S. Naval Base in Canada, Dr. Huene’s father was an orthopedic flight surgeon in the Navy and had practiced in Fresno, California since 1969. After a mission trip to Afghanistan in 1976 with his father, Huene was motivated to go into orthopedic medicine.
Dr. Huene attended Oral Roberts University School of Medicine in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Loma Linda University in California before deciding to move to the Western Slope in 1994.
Dr. Huene has been practicing orthopedic medicine for almost 30 years and strives to provide compassionate care when treating each patient’s individual needs.
Dr. Freese, a Delta Health physician and Chief of Staff praised Dr. Huene for his expertise and invaluable contribution to patient care. “Dr. Heune has been an exceptional surgeon and a terrific colleague. His skilled care hugely benefited our patients. He expertly repaired bones, relieved severe pain, and improved mobility for thousands.”
To honor Dr. Huene’s contributions, Delta Health is inviting interested individuals to join us in thanking and honoring him for his service on March 28th from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Grand Mesa Medical Group Orthopedics and Sports Medicine clinic, located at 296 Stafford Lane, Delta, CO 81416. Light refreshments will be served.
