Delta Health Foundation Welcomes New Director

Apr 13, 2022News

Delta, CO (April 13, 2022) – The Delta Health Foundation is excited to welcome Darnell Place-Wise as its new  Executive Director.

Place-Wise served on the Delta Health Foundation board for over three years and brings with her knowledge and experience of Delta County. Her professional background is heavily steeped in business development and consulting, and she has experience in the nonprofit world, having served on the Delta Area Chamber of Commerce’s Board for 5 years (over two separate stints), and was the Executive Director for two years.

“We are thrilled to welcome Darnell as our new Executive Director,” said Matt Heyn, President and CEO of Delta Health. “Darnell is an exceptional leader and is well versed in our organization as well as in the community of Delta County.  We are confident that she will thrive and make a difference in the community.”

In her previous role, Place-Wise served as the Public Information Officer, Marketing and Tourism, Fairgrounds Coordinator, and Executive Administration to the Board and Administrator in Delta County.

“The Foundation offers me an opportunity to spend my day doing good in the world and helping people,” said Place-Wise. “I am looking forward to building on what’s already in place with the Foundation; it’s an amazing organization that can do even more with additional exposure throughout Delta County and the region.”

Up next for the Foundation is the second annual Delta Health Golf Classic happening on Saturday, July 16 at Devil’s Thumb Golf Course in Delta. Sponsorships and teams are currently being accepted for this fun event. More information can be found at foundationdeltahealth.org/deltahealthclassic.

The Pea Green Pedal is also scheduled for September 10, and this year the Foundation is bringing back the Foundation gala. Additional information on the date and location is coming soon.

Place-Wise grew up in Delta and after moving away, moved back in 2002. She is married to her high school sweetheart, Travers, and they have a daughter, Emma, who is a senior at Delta High School.

“Our weekends are spent outside working around the house, walking the dogs, camping and four-wheeling as often as possible,” she said. “I love everything about Delta County. I love that people care for one another in each of our beautiful communities, and I love that each of our communities is distinctly different from one another.”

The agricultural heritage, the summer festivals, and the sunshine are also part of her favorite things about Delta County. “This is an amazing place to live and raise a family. I can’t imagine living anywhere else.”

“I am looking forward to getting to know everything about Delta Health Hospital and its clinics,” said Place-Wise. “Delta County is incredibly fortunate to have this county-wide healthcare system!”
